I was going to wait until the new year, January 2022 to kick off documenting my collection, but when I walked into my local ABC Liquor store here in central VA this morning and saw some Knob 15 (2021 Release), I knew I needed to just get off my ass and start sharing. Also, the store received 6 bottles of Knob Single Barrel Reserve 9 year. Hadn't seen either in the local area before so I grabbed both. I'm going to do my best to snap images of the bottles at the store first, just to show folks where I'm collecting. Big shoutout to Bobby for letting me know! If you haven't take a gander at my colleciton yet,Cheers!

About the Bottles

Ya know, Knob 15 isn't even shown on the knobcreek.com domain due to limited release. I had to take these notes from Lost Cargo: "Knob Creek's 15 Year limited release is back for a second year. The approved red label specifies "Release No. KC 002", and it will again be bottled at 100 proof. After the disappearance of 120 proof, 15-year-old private barrel selections last year, this release has become the best way to get a hold of some of Jim Beam's oldest stocks. This limited release is an older sibling to Knob Creek's year-round 12 Year blue label. Knob Creek 15 Year is expected to join Basil Hayden 10 Year in this winter's edition of Beam's Barreled & Boxed subscription service." (Subscription only available in DC and KY) Knob Creek 15 Year 2020 sports a release number on the bottle - KC001.

The Single Barrel Reserve 9 Year is on the distiller website. According to Knob "Our distillers handpick exceptional barrels to be enjoyed in their full, unblended glory."

Overall Tasting Notes for Knob 15 2020

To be clear, I haven't tasted this yet and it's a bottle of the new 2021 (KC002). You can check out my list to see what I have opened and what is available in my collection for trade. I've found Breaking Bourbon to be an exceptional resource and here are some notes from them. I will try and update this when I find some tasting notes. If you find some, drop a link. I don't get into the whole Nose, Palate, Finish tasting notes like some guys, just like getting straight to the point:

"In some ways, Knob Creek 15 Year (2020) offers exactly what you might expect it would. Aged oak dominates with sweet flavors underneath, it drinks right at its 100 proof point, and doesn’t ever quite find itself out of bounds. Unfortunately, it probably won’t knock anyone’s socks off either. It maintains a traditional Kentucky bourbon flavor profile, and leans towards dry oak in the same way older Elijah Craig releases tend to do. Given the fact that many older bourbons being released nowadays either originate from Tennessee and share a familiar flavor profile, or are just very difficult to obtain due to being limited releases, those looking for more dominant aged oak with sweet undertones don’t have a ton of options. Knob Creek 15 Year certainly delivers in that sense, offering drinkers a more traditionally flavored bourbon that shows its age."
